this is a necklace I bought a few years ago at home (Bulawayo). It's black metal and has gold tips. I wore it with my Zara top and loved how the model on the top appears to be crowned by this jewellery piece! I call it my #Africa meets #China outfit!

the Africans they [media] never show you.

I have had a beautiful weekend of total inspiration from the original source of all inspirations, mother Africa herself. I am inspired by the next generation of fully charged, fully knowing, fully equipped young African women & men who are living in the now and creating success for themselves.

Ignorance is bliss [not always]. It's true that the media has tended to focus on the not so positive aspects of Africa, so much that the beautiful things that are happening are furthest away from one's mind. Social Media is connecting these dots. There is an evolution happening [in Africa] that is not really spoken of.

I have always listed Africa & Fashion as my love and inspiration for this blog & all things I do, today I am also carving out the names of those Africans who don't see boundaries or limitations when striving for their dreams. I am adding those that have lived the life I dream to be comfortable living and the world around gets comfortable seeing. Names of young women, older women, of colour [or not]. I am inspired by African Fashion icons, musicians, families of all colour and I realise life is for living, it certainly isn't a rehearsal!

At their 5th New York Fashion Week show, Arise Magazine presented some of the top Africa Icons of fashion. Need we say L.O.V.E?

TIFFANY AMBER - She's done it again! Look at those prints and frills. 

TSEMAYE BINITIE - his star has been on the rise for sometime now and we can honestly say we are as excited for Tsemaye Binitie as he is for himself. Feels like we've been on this journey with him. Huge congratulations!

MAKI OH - Love the delicacy of her designs, the sophisticated elegance and of course the beautifully customised prints. This is a designer who dresses you! 

GAVIN RAJAH - blown away by Rajah's gold pieces. The detailed material and tasteful designs have left us wondering why we haven't talked enough about this South African designer? Fall in love!

OZWALD BOATENG - Gentlemen please! With Ozwald you can not expect less. Loved the vibrant colours, mix of cuts, prints, styling and of course that whole tailored look he is famous for!

Showing at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Stefani's collection featured Black, White & Asian models. A healthy mix of people we think. Ranging from maxi dresses to the African print, L.A.M.B is a definite favourite. Particulary love the 'grey, blue & orange sunset' backgrounds.

Pholoso Selebogo, the singing Stylist

An interesting individual. Born in South Africa, living in Belgium. I find everything about her intriguing. She has confidence of someone twice her age with twice the achievements in their life. Pholoso speaks softly but very precisely. She is intelligent and has an opinion. I love her style, it's hers. It's original and full of character, or 'organic' as Pholoso refers to it herself. She has worked with Bruno Pieters. BTW she can also sing. The 'singing stylist'. Interviewed in Vougue Italia. One to watch out for, PHOLOSO.

'Optimistic Rebels' is about discovering extremely gifted young artists with that uncanny, almost scary yet charming DNA of an optimistic rebel. These rebels epitomise the Converse spirit, they don't wait for fate to interpret their dreams - they fight it out to see their dreams come alive in their awoken hour.

her name is....

Her name is Millen Magese! She's Tanzanian, face of 'Arise Africa Fashion Week 2009' and has appeared on just about every major Fashion Show in Africa (the ones that matter anyway!). Previously based in South Africa, last year she made a leap from Ice Model Management (South Africa) to FORD MODELS (New York). So she will be joining other big African supermodels & will do us proud of course! So keep your eyes peeled out and Watch this space...

creative or offensive?

Photographer Jean-Paul Goude’s recent Naomi Campbell shoot for the 2009 September issue of Harper’s Bazaar has raised a few questions. I personally think the images are a very strong creative work but it is open for interpretation of course! In the photoshoot, Campbell almost outruns a cheetah, seems at ease jumping ropes with monkeys and rides a crocodile and elephant like its a walk in the park! Stereotypes yes, but the work is beautifully executed by model & photographer! So what do you guys think? Is it creative or offensive?
